On Cool Companies and Speeches

My boss wrote this about life for Food & Wine Magazine:

"Your life is yours, and it’s going to suck sometimes and be great sometimes. It’s going to hurt so bad that you want to turn around and crawl into a hole. It’s going to be so high and wonderful that you will wonder how to keep it there (and you’ll fail at that). You’ll make mistakes, but you won’t ever give up—not because someone gave you that advice, but because it’s way more fun that way. And you’re good at it."

And I wrote this about her for a speech for the American Marketing Association:

"We all report to Jeni, who is beyond an ice cream maker. She’s an artist, involved in every detail of the brand. She’s fiercely competitive and isn’t okay with the status quo. I’m still nervous around her even though we’ve shared deodorant and I’ve bought her socks. If she didn’t make ice cream, we’d still know of  her. She’d be a poet or a novelist or a painter or a photographer or a conductor. And in a way, she’s all of these already."
